My name is Emily Rokon. I grew up in Mondamin, IA, a small town about fifty miles north of Omaha. I attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and received my bachelors in psychology. I met my husband, Kam in college and convinced him to move to Omaha right after graduation, temporarily. Almost 7 years later, we are still here and consider Omaha our permanent home. Our daughter, Juliet, turned 2 in September and is a beautiful little light in our lives. She was identified with hearing loss at birth, through the newborn screening test and was fitted for her hearing aid at 3 months. We named her hearing aid ‘Hira’ on day one and it stuck so that’s what we always call her! I am a part-time student working on my masters in social work at UNO, work part-time at ALS in the Heartland as a patient services support worker, Usborne book consultant, and stay at home mom! I am honored to be given the opportunity to be a Parent Guide with the Guide by Your Side program and am looking forward to connecting with other families and learning as much information as I can absorb along the way to better assist families with their needs.
