My name is Julie Parker and I am from Hastings, Nebraska. My husband Bob and I have two sons. Our oldest son, Jake, attends the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and hopes to go onto law school after completing his undergraduate degree. Our youngest son, Will, is a senior in high school who, upon graduation, will spend a full year in Italy through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Will is a talented, creative, kind, caring and compassionate young man who is profoundly deaf. He lost his hearing as an infant due to bacterial meningitis. He wears bi-lateral cochlear implants and was the youngest infant to be implanted in Nebraska in 2000. We’ve taught him how to be an advocate for himself and his peers and are so proud of his empathy and consideration for others.
I’ve been teaching for twenty-nine years and have my Master’s Degree in early childhood education. My passion lies with young children as I’ve taught kindergarten for seventeen of those twenty-nine years. I am thrilled to now be a part of Nebraska Hands & Voices: Guide by Your Side!
