Jake Frost (8th Grade)
Nebraska Hands & Voices Guide By Your Side along with Nebraska EHDI recognizes a Deaf or HOH student in Nebraska who stands out as a role model in his community with the monthly Rising Star Award. Jake was nominated by Sue Peterson, with the following nomination:
“The first thing I noticed about Jake was his sense of humor! He laughs easily, and can sure take some ribbing – and give it back too!
He was diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2019 when he was still in middle school. Because of the side effects of chemo and how it affects the immune system, Jake was not able to come back to school for his second semester of 8th grade. We switched to home-based service, and I cannot say enough about how quickly he adapted, organized, and stepped up to the plate! Throughout his chemo and radiation, no matter how awful he felt, he always had a smile and never missed an assignment! Now, in high school, he is attending classes at school but still sometimes receives lectures through zoom. His perseverance and super-positive attitude has not wavered, and he never lost that sense of humor!”
