The Rising Stars Award was created in 2018 by Guide By Your Side Program Coordinator Shelli Janning. Shelli was inspired by her own daughter's strong self-advocacy and leadership skills, and felt that other D/HH youth who stand out as positive role models in their communities and among their peers deserved recognition.

The Rising Star receives a certificate of recognition, a $15 gift card, a shout out on the Nebraska Hands & Voices Facebook page, and bragging rights for the month.
